The Amalfi Coast with the Boys

Our third weekend trip in a row! Man, travelling is tiring and this weekend was intense for me. My weekend with the BOYS! I spent the weekend on the southern coast of Italy with Pablo and our other friend, Newman. I am pretty sure I asked every girl I could find to go with me, but everyone seemed to already have plans! Just kidding, it was actually a really fun time! The first day we went to visit Positano, which is kind of like Cinque Terre. It is basically a large city on the side of the mountain. We took a bus there from Naples and walked all around, had pizza on the sea and then waited forever for the bus back! Our hostel was in Sorrento and when we returned, we found this little wine bar with live music! It was a really cute place!

The next day we took a ferry to the island of Capri which was all of our favorite! Right away we bought tickets to go on a boat tour all the way around the island! This is where we were able to go into the blue grotto! A very sketchy man in a little row boat took us out. There was a line so we had to sit in the boat a while, and for the first time I felt a little sea sick. We were instructed to lay down in the boat the whole time. Finally when it was our turn, the man told us to lay as flat as possible as he grabbed the chain connected to the little hole in the cliff that we were about to squeeze through. The hole was about four feet tall and three feet wide. The little row boat scraped the sides of the rock as we went through. Inside the grotto was a whole new world! The vivid blue was incredible! We found out that this is one of the seven wonders of the world! The light from outside lit up the entire grotto! We rowed around a while and the man tried to sing to us, then we were on our way out! The exit was much worse than entering the grotto. Just as the enormous man leaned all of his weight back on me and we started to go through, a huge wave came through and the top of the boat hit the top of the hole! Good thing we were lying back as far as possible otherwise I would have died trying to get out of a blue grotto in Italy! Water splashed everywhere in the boat and I thought I was going to puke, but it was still amazing!!!

We walked all around the island, which is very stylish and modern surprisingly. I bought some coconut, and then we hiked all the way up to the city centro, which is at the top of the (mountain). The view from the top was amazing. The sea is just so blue and clear! On the way down, we ate at a burger place with the best burgers I have had yet! Yes, I ordered a burger, I was trying to be manly with the boys. haha. Back down on the shore we decided to rent a boat for a few hours! This was the boys best idea yet! We rode around the island on our own boat and swam through the green grottos which were even more amazing! The water was around twenty feet deep and you could see the bottom so clearly! Pablo is a crazy diver and when he dove as deep as he could, I was able to see him clearly! It was so cool! Newman and Pablo went around and climbed all of the rocks and I swam in the clear water and sat in the boat mesmerized by the sights! It was just gorgeous, I truly felt like I was in paradise!

The last day of the trip we went to Pompeii. This city had been preserved for thousands of years, it is the town that Mount Vesuvius expolded on and destroyed in 79 AD!!! There are even body casts where the people were "casted in the ashes." This was very sad to see, of course, but the town was just so interesting. I couldnt believe I was walking down the same streets and seeing the same buildings as people did thousands of years ago! The houses and stores were all so small signifying how tiny the people were during those days! An average woman was shorter than five feet tall and they were all so skinny! The casts looked like miniature people lying on the ground. These ancient ruins were breath-taking, I was walking back into history!
P.S. Thanks to those of you who have left me comments! They make me feel really good and let me know that you are looking at what I am up to and are enjoying my blog! (grandma joanie) haha
