the alps

The second field trip we took was up to the Apuane Alps where we climbed through a cave in the mountain. It was kind of a scary trip up to the top, we had to take tiny little buses because the road were so steep and narrow. When we reached the top, we walked through the opening of the cave and through various doors. Whenever the guide opened each of the doors, a freezing blast of air came through and all of the lights turned on. The cave was created when the glaciers melted and all of the water crashed through it. You would think that the inside of the cave would look smooth since the water flowed through so fast, but there were tons of narrow shafts and the ridges were all very bumpy. After we left the cave, we went to a marble quarry where Michelangelo went to get his marble. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to take pictures inside of the cave, but here are a few of us outside and at the marble quarry.
